Problem
The Trio of Trials: Community, Health and Financial Tracking in Smoking Cessaation
Quitting smoking isn't just about saying no to cigarettes. The users need a friendly nudge in building a supportive community, keeping an eye on their health, and watching those savings grow as they ditch the smokes. Finding this perfect mix is a real head-scratcher for many!
Solution
Offering a Blend of Friendly Community Cheer and Handy Progress Tracking.
With Lung Love, we've developed a solution that's both fun and functional: an app that merges community engagement, health tracking, and financial monitoring. This trio offers a comprehensive approach to make the journey of quitting smoking more manageable and enjoyable.
Survey Insight
25-30: The Prime Time for Change
Our survey aimed to gather demographic details and understand the smoking habits of potential app users. The results revealed a significant trend: the majority of smokers were in the 18-24 age group. However, the primary target audience for our smoking cessation app – those actively seeking to quit – predominantly fell in the 25-30 age range, often with about five years of smoking history. In 2023, this group is notably tech-savvy, making them more inclined to try out digital solutions like a dedicated cessation app.
To maximize reach, we strategically placed surveys around the school campus and leveraged online channels through peer networks, ensuring diverse and comprehensive participation.
Interview Insight
A Spotlight for Every Quit Story
In Lung Love, we've artfully woven together elements of community sharing and gamification, based on insights from our interviews. This feature is akin to a supportive gathering – a place where users can narrate their own quitting stories, each one a unique journey. At the same time, they get to showcase their earned badges and achievements, adding a dash of excitement to the mix. This fusion creates an environment where personal progress is not only acknowledged but celebrated as a collective achievement. It's a blend of support and celebration, transforming the journey to a smoke-free life into an engaging and communal experience. This approach strikes a balance between fostering a sense of belonging and injecting a playful, motivating spirit into the app.
Insight-Inspired Ideation
Tracking Wellness with a Trauma-Informed Touch
We've tailored the Health Tracking feature in Lung Love with a sprinkle of care and positivity. This feature isn't about scaring users with grim health warnings. Instead, it's like a friendly nudge showing how they're moving forward, health-wise. We're using a trauma-informed approach here – if a user's health indicators aren't improving, we don't bombard them with alarming messages. Rather, we consider that the stagnant progress is an indicator enough and encourage them to keep going. It's all about celebrating each small step towards better health. This way, we're not just tracking health; we're building a nurturing environment that cheers on every user, no matter where they are in their quitting journey. It's like having a supportive buddy who's always rooting for you, without the doom and gloom.
Secondary Research Insight
Beyond 'Lung' Love
We delved into secondary research to gain a comprehensive understanding of the wider health impacts of smoking. The exploratory research revealed significant correlations between smoking and deteriorating oral and cardiovascular health. It became evident that smoking's impact goes beyond lung health, affecting gum disease, tooth decay, blood pressure, and heart health. Motivated by these findings, we decided it was crucial not only to track these specific health aspects within the app but also to educate users about them. Alongside the tracking features, informative screens were incorporated to shed light on how smoking affects these aspects of health.
